The Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut (CGC), a non-profit mental health resource serving children and teenagers in Stamford, Darien, New Canaan and Greenwich, has recently received a $15,000 donation from UBS of Stamford. The CGC was one of 30 area charities to receive funding as part of the 8 th annual UBS grant program; with $500,000 awarded in all.
The UBS donation will help fund CGC’s Crime Victims Assistance and Community Policing Program, which provides 24/7 outreach and mental services to child victims and “high-risk” children identified by the police. The goal of the program is to mitigate the psychological consequences of violence and other traumatic events, thereby reducing the likelihood that youngsters exposed to violence will themselves become perpetrators of violence.
"Through our partnership with local police departments, we are able to quickly respond to the needs of children to help them through the trauma of crime of violence," said Lee Bowbeer, coordinator of the Community Policing Partnership Program. "UBS' donation helps to ensure that a program like this can continue to thrive and benefit the children and families in our community."
Since 1998, UBS has contributed more than $10 million to area community programs.
