~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CGC Unveils Donor Recognition Wall
|
| |
|
| |
As with many artists, Lina Morielli’s creations tell a story through design, color and texture. When she was commissioned to create a donor recognition piece for the newly expanded Child Guidance Center she was inspired by the uniqueness of CGC itself, the services it provides, and the people that make it all happen.
The result was a wood assemblage wall piece designed to recognize those who generously contributed their money, time, expertise and heart. Its quilt motif reflects the agency’s culture and values, while symbolizing how its contributions to individual children, families and the community will be handed down to future generations.
The “Restoring Childhood” Quilt is constructed of individual squares from unique pieces of wood. Each piece comes from a different type of tree, and is a different color and size. Each was discarded and rediscovered. While no two squares are alike, each is thought to be as beautiful as the next particularly when they are grouped together. The symbolism is clear – the Child Guidance Center and its supporters share in the belief that while children and families may seem beyond repair in dealing with issues such as domestic violence, divorce, sexual abuse and depression among others, there is always hope for restoration and beauty in the end. Each person involved in the CGC’s work be it child, parent, social worker, clinician or donor is essential to the fabric of the agency.
